Short term treatment

 Adults Basic GGZ practice (GB-GGZ)

We provide structured, short-term treatment within the Dutch Basic Mental Health Care system (Generalistische Basis GGZ) for adults.

Our approach is focused, evidence-based, and goal-oriented.

Together, we identify what is maintaining your symptoms and work toward practical, meaningful change.
Most clients require 4–10 sessions to regain clarity, resilience, and direction.

Therapy is available in Dutch and English.

Current availability: There is no waiting list for intake and treatment.

How does treatment work?

Our practice offers short-term, goal-oriented treatment within Basic GGZ, where on average 4 to 10 sessions are sufficient to move forward again. During the intake we jointly map your situation, symptoms, possible causes, and treatment goals. The guidance is personal and aimed at strengthening self-direction, resilience, and independent functioning, supplemented with practical exercises, homework, and online modules.

We work with a clear treatment plan and evaluate progress regularly.

The beginning of treatment

Before the first session you will receive intake forms and questionnaires for preparation. During the intake we assess together whether the treatment is suitable and whether there is sufficient trust for good collaboration; if needed, we will refer you—in consultation—to more suitable care. When treatment goals are achieved, we conclude the trajectory carefully with a plan that helps you continue independently and prevents relapse as much as possible.

Online modules and personal guidance

Treatment consists of a combination of live sessions and additional online treatment modules via Therapieland. These evidence-based modules focus on developing practical skills and can be followed flexibly in your own time. During sessions, we deepen insight into underlying patterns and work on sustainable change, resilience, and self-compassion.

Online sessions

Sessions take place via a secure video connection. Online therapy is effective and accessible and prevents travel time, while many clients experience extra safety and comfort from their own familiar environment.

Involvement of partner/family/close others

If desired, a partner or close others can be involved in treatment—for example through joint sessions, explanation of the treatment process, or participation in parts of e-health modules. If appropriate, additional support for close others may be advised.

When is this practice less suitable?

  • In cases of acute psychosis, severe addiction, suicidality, or complex problems (such as specialist autism care), Specialized Mental Health Care (specialist GGZ) is more suitable.

  • If necessary, we will refer you—after consultation—within the care network or to your GP / mental health nurse (POH-GGZ).

Waiting times

Current status: there is currently no waiting time for the intake and treatment.

After the intake, treatment can start immediately; there is currently no waiting time between intake and treatment. The waiting time for an intake is independent of your health insurer and is updated monthly.

If you experience the waiting time as too long, you can contact the practice or ask your insurer for waiting list mediation in line with the Treek norms (intake within 4 weeks, start of treatment within 10 weeks).

Registration

You can register by phone via 06-44 369 258 (Maarten van Steenis and Yvonne Weeseman) or via the contact form on the website. If you leave a voicemail with your name and phone number, you will be called back as soon as possible. You can also use the contact form for general questions.

In case of crisis

If you are already in treatment and a crisis arises, contact your GP or the GP out-of-hours service and inform the practice about this. In life-threatening situations, always call 112; if you have suicide-related thoughts, you can contact 113 suicide prevention.

Reimbursement by your health insurer

Via chain organization Vicino Noord Holland-Noord, we are affiliated with all Dutch health insurers. If you are insured with one of the affiliated insurance groups, psychological care within Basic GGZ is, in principle, eligible for reimbursement, with the deductible (own risk) and any policy conditions applying. Always check with your insurer yourself whether and how treatment is reimbursed.

Affiliated insurance groups with which we additionally have a contract include: VGZ, Achmea (Zilveren Kruis / De Friesland), Menzis, CZ, DSW, ASR, SZVK, Zorg en Zekerheid, ONVZ, Salland Verzekeringen, Caresq and RMA/RMO.

If your policy is not listed, contact your insurer to check whether it falls under one of these groups.

With a benefits-in-kind policy (naturapolis), reimbursed care is settled directly with the insurer. With a restitution policy (restitutiepolis), reimbursement can be paid directly to us or first paid by you and then reimbursed to you by your insurer; check this in advance with your insurer. If applicable, your insurer will charge you the deductible and any co-payment, and can reclaim costs when care falls outside policy conditions.

For reimbursement, a valid referral from your GP is required and there must be a DSM-5 disorder that is reimbursed by the insurer. Not all DSM-5 diagnoses fall under insured care; treatment for, for example, relationship problems or burnout is usually not reimbursed, but can still take place on a self-pay basis.

Self-funded psychological support

When care is not reimbursed, or when you choose not to use reimbursement via the health insurer, costs are at your own expense. The government has determined that certain help requests—such as relationship problems, work problems, or adjustment problems without a DSM-5 disorder—do not fall under insured care.

For self-paid treatment, the rate set by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) applies. In 2026, this is €142.29 per 45-minute session. Invoices are sent monthly and must be paid within 14 days; the payment conditions for non-insured care apply.

Cancelling appointments

Appointments can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours in advance. For cancellations within 24 hours, or for not showing up, €142.29 per session will be charged.

Privacy

Your personal data (such as name, address, and age) is processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (Dutch: Algemene Verordening Gegevensbescherming- AVG). Data is only accessible to the practitioner and is carefully secured; no data is ever shared with third parties without your consent. In addition, a legal duty of professional confidentiality applies.

The patient record

During treatment, a record is kept with relevant data and, if necessary, information about family members. One month after the last consultation, the record is closed and—with your consent—the GP or referrer receives a report of the treatment outcomes. By law, we are required to keep the record for twenty years after closure, after which it is destroyed.

Right of access and correction

You have the right to view your record; for extensive access, a separate appointment can be made. You can have personal data amended if it is incorrect, incomplete, or not necessary for the purpose of registration. Upon request, you can receive a copy of your record.

Evidence Based methods

We tailor treatment to your needs using scientifically supported approaches, including:

EMDR, Acceptance & Commitment therapie (ACT), Imaginairy rescripting en Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

We can discuss which methods suit you best, so treatment can be tailored to you.

Client satisfaction survey 2025

Because client experiences enable us to continuously work on the quality of our services, we also conduct client satisfaction surveys.

After treatment, we ask clients to complete a questionnaire (called the Consumer Quality Index Mental Health Care and Addiction Care outpatient—abbreviated as the CQi) about their experiences. Completing the CQi provides scores indicating how the client experienced various specific aspects of treatment.
Subscores are given on a scale from 1 to 5.

In addition, the client gives an overall score for how treatment was experienced in general. The overall score is given on a scale from 0 to 10.

Client satisfaction as measured with the CQI*

  • Attitude/interaction: 4.82

  • Practitioner accessibility: 4.74

  • Treatment information: 4.5

  • Treatment delivery: 4.74

  • Shared decision-making: 4.52

  • Ability to involve family/close others: 4.23

  • Information about questionnaires: 3.93

  • Information about client organizations/self-help groups: 3.48

Overall treatment grade: 8.7

*These figures are based on a total of 59 client satisfaction questionnaires that were administered and completed in 2025 via Vicino and Embloom. This information is updated once per year. We use this information to improve practice operations where possible.

First of all, we are very happy that clients rate the treatment on average with an 8.7. Even more important is that clients give feedback about their experiences regarding treatment so that services can be improved where possible. Based on the feedback over 2025, in 2026 we will try to further improve our services regarding information about questionnaires and information about client organizations/self-help groups.

Quality assurance

The quality of the psychological care delivered is ensured by meeting the quality requirements of the Dutch Institute of Psychologists (NIP), including the NIP Code of Ethics, which applies to all Dutch psychologists. In addition, we comply with the quality requirements of the GGZ Quality Statute and of Vicino Noord Holland Noord.

We also participate in intervision and peer consultation, are affiliated with professional organizations, cooperate with audits/visitation processes, and follow continuing education and training.

Quality Statute

As of 2017, all self-employed psychologists and psychotherapists are required to have a quality statute. The GGZ Quality Statute specifies what mental health care providers must have arranged regarding quality and accountability in order to provide curative mental health care within the framework of the Dutch Health Insurance Act. This model has been in force since January 2017 for all providers of generalistic basic GGZ and specialist GGZ within the Health Insurance Act.

Creating your own quality statute based on this model is mandatory for a mental health care provider. We have an approved Quality Statute 4.0, which can be viewed here.

Complaints and disputes procedure

We do our utmost to provide good care and tailor it to the client. During treatment, clients are regularly asked for feedback. Nevertheless, you may not be satisfied.

If you have a complaint, please let us know, and will try to reach a solution together in mutual consultation. You can submit the complaint directly to the practitioner, orally or in writing. After receiving a complaint, contact will be made with you within one week and we will aim to reach a satisfactory solution within four weeks.

You can also submit a complaint to Klachtenportaal Zorg, an independent organization certified by the government specializing in handling complaints about healthcare providers. Klachtenportaal Zorg can be reached via klachtenportaalzorg.nl.

Complaints can also be submitted via the LVVP complaints scheme:
